2017年維密秀確定將於中國上海舉行，日前超模吉吉·哈迪德（Gigi Hadid）則因“辱華事件”引發網友不滿，紛紛舉報拒絕其加入上海大秀。而9月1日晚間，吉吉在微博報歉，並稱“我對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛”。

此前，因為在與朋友聚會中眯眼模仿佛像，吉吉被網友怒批“種族卑視”，並被挖出眾多此前涉嫌種族卑視-的行為。其男友澤恩-馬利克（Zayn Malik）隨後發文維護女友，也被指責“無知”。不少中國網友紛紛舉報拒絕其加入上海大秀。

9月1日晚間，吉吉在微博報歉，表現“絕非想要冒犯任何人”、“真摯地向那些因我的言行而受到損害或者失望的人報歉”，而且“對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛”。
